New traffic signal sensors are live

Traffic lights at the Church Street overpass (Durham Street intersection) in Hunters Hill are now more reactive with the installation of new traffic signal sensors.

It was brought to Council’s attention that cars queued at the overpass were not triggering the traffic sensors when they were stopped behind the ‘keep clear’ area marked on the road. In response to community feedback, Council lobbied Transport for NSW to install additional traffic light sensors behind this area.

This means the sensors can now detect vehicles queued behind both the traffic light and the ‘keep clear’ area, to maximise the traffic flow of vehicles and minimise congestion.

The sensors help to make the intersection safer for drivers, pedestrians and other road users, aligning with Councils commitment to managing and developing a safe and well-connected transport system within Hunters Hill.
