The Young in Art Exhibition commenced in 1955 and was originally a sub section of the Hunters Hill Art Exhibition. Young in Art was devoted to the display of art from school children in the Municipality. However, lack of sufficient space to properly display the ‘Youth Art’ became an increasing problem, and, since 1992, separate annual exhibitions have been organised.
Young in Art is a combined exhibition and competition with artwork submitted from every school in the Hunters Hill local government area in addition to Gladesville Public School, which borders Hunters Hill but is located in the City of Ryde. The exhibition aims to encourage and celebrate the pursuit of the arts by local students.
Young in Art is always a fabulous showcase of locally trained talent, and a tribute to the passion and hard work of the students and art teachers across all eight schools, including:
The annual exhibition runs over 4 days and is typically held in October of each year. Shortlisted works are selected by teachers with independent judging taking place to award category prize winners. The exhibition is held in the Hunters Hill Town Hall and runs over several days to ensure that all families and friends can wander through the exhibition and enjoy the artistic talent of local school students.

Hunter’s Hill Council’s Communications and Events team will contact the relevant schools with lists of the winners in each category. Certificates and prize vouchers will be available for collection during the Exhibition from the Young in Art front desk in the foyer of the Town Hall.
Staff will take a photo of the winner(s) and their artwork(s) at the time of the prize collection unless otherwise indicated. Parents or guardians will be asked to give consent to any photos taken by filling in the photography consent form.
A list of winners will be published on this page. All minors will be listed with first name and surname initial only, as well as the name of the school and the artwork.
Artwork (either whole or in part) from the previous year’s exhibition may be selected by Hunter’s Hill Council as the “hero” artwork for the next year’s poster and marketing collateral.
Prizes are awarded as vouchers from The Art Scene.
Schools are welcome to arrange class visits to Young in Art during the exhibition opening times 10am – 4pm on Thursday 23 October – Sunday 26 October 2025.
Artwork preparation:
Please make sure any artwork on paper is mounted on, or framed in, cardboard - with Velcro dots at each back corner. Place artwork on the walls labelled with the appropriate Year group. The artworks will be curated and moved within the year groups once all artwork has arrived, ahead of judging. Once judging is complete, event staff will contact the schools with the results and arrange for the collection of certificates and prizes.
If the artwork is on canvas or wood, please place medium sized d-rings near the top left and right corners on the back. This will allow the artwork to be hung from the exhibition wires and hooks rather than using Velcro.
Please also include the school / naming labels attached to each artwork. Labels are to be attached to the back of the artwork along the bottom edge so that the name of the artwork and artist(s) is visible below the frame. The name of the school is on the back of the label and should face the wall. For sculptures, please tape the label to the base of the work where the artwork name side of the label will be visible.
