Flying Drones

Drones can be a fun and exciting hobby but to keep people, property and the environment around you safe, it’s essential you know the rules that apply to you.

You do not need approval from Council to operate a drone, however you must abide by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) rules and you will need to apply for approval if you intend on operating a drone in a park that is managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

Depending on the nature of your use, you may require a filming and photography permit.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is the governing body for drone and model aircraft use in Australia. If you are looking to fly a drone in and around the municipality you should be familiar with these regulations.

To find out the drone rules and for more information visit the CASA Drone Rules or download the OpenSky drone safety app.
