Hunter’s Hill Council has officially reopened Gladesville Reserve today, with a range of high-quality upgrades to raise the standard of the ground for future games.

Works on the Reserve, which has been closed since May 2023, include:

  • improvements to the turf and playing surface including adding two additional training areas to the soccer field
  • installation of a new drainage system
  • removal of cricket wicket and installation of a new state-of-the-art cricket practice net
  • new sports ground lighting poles with higher lighting levels to match the professional play standard of 100 lux

Lane Cove State MP Anthony Roberts commended the works undertaken which will have enormous benefits for the community.

“These vast improvements will have a significant impact on the local sporting clubs who use Gladesville Reserve. Playing sport and taking part in recreational activities is so important for everyone’s health and wellbeing so I’m glad I was able to help Hunter’s Hill Council secure this grant for Gladesville Reserve. I look forward to seeing many community sports and events take place here in the near future,” Mr Roberts said.

Mayor Zac Miles is pleased to see the significant and much-needed upgrades transform this important community asset into a high-quality facility.

“These enhancements will increase the playing capacity at the Reserve, allowing the sports field to be used for more hours each week, all year round, as well as providing a higher quality playing surface for all members of the community to enjoy a range of active and passive recreational pursuits,” Cr Miles said.

“The new drainage system will help players get back on the field faster after periods of wet weather as it will minimise surface water ponding and help the grass to recover after heavy use. The improved light standard means clubs are now better equipped for night training and matches, helping them to improve the safety and standard of their games for players.”

The reopening of Gladesville Reserve was marked with a plaque unveiling and ribbon-cutting by Lane Cove State MP Anthony Roberts, Mayor of Hunter’s Hill Council Zac Miles, and All Saints Hunters Hill Football Club president, Euan MacLeod. North Sydney Federal MP, Kylea Tink was also in attendance.

All Saints Hunters Hill FC staged a Gala Day alongside the opening, which included a penalty shoot-out tournament with an inflatable goal and prize giveaways.

The $2.3 million project was funded by the NSW Office of Sport through the Sport Election Commitments Program and Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program.

Cricket nets are currently open for public use while the field is available for hire on Council’s website.
