Clarkes Point and the Woolwich Peninsula are traditionally popular vantage points for people looking to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Our Council will be supporting NSW Police (Ryde Police Area Command) to manage public safety and minimise traffic.

New Year’s Eve 2022 / 2023 Fireworks will return to the 2019 scenario of barges at the Harbour Bridge precinct and down the rivers, including a barge between Clarkes Point and Cockatoo Island. There will be fireworks at 9pm and Midnight.
All vantage points are free to enter (unticketed) in Hunters Hill including Clarkes Point Reserve, Morts Reserve, Kellys Bush Reserve, Huntleys Point Underpass and Lookout Reserve. Traffic, parking and vehicle restrictions will be in place throughout the LGA. Police will be present throughout the evening.
We ask all visitors to New Year’s Eve vantage points to act in a safe and considerate manner.
Ryde Police Area Command have control of Woolwich Peninsula (Church St Overpass to Onion Point) from 12.00pm on Saturday 31 December 2022.
The Church Street overpass will be closed to non-resident vehicles from 12.30pm. Residents will need to provide ID showing their residential address to police at the checkpoint.
Guests of residents will need to be collected by the resident from the Overpass, use the Park and Ride service to Clarkes Point or book a Taxi or Ride Share to a specific residential address. For Ride Share patrons, the driver will be asked to show the destination in the App.
Taxis and Ride Share vehicles will only be allowed to drop off or pick up passengers at a residential or business location – not parks.
Police have discontinued the distribution of guest vehicle passes for residents.
No entrance for any vehicles to Woolwich Pedestrian Zone between Gladstone Ave and Gale Streets from 11.30pm to 12.30am. Pickup for ride shares only after 12.30am

A vehicle registration link has been provided via email to venues or businesses who require staff or patron access on New Year’s Eve. The registration form is now closed.

All information provided on the Vehicle Registration form will be shared with Ryde Police Area Command to be used at the Church St / Reiby Rd Checkpoint.
Members of the public are welcome to visit restaurants, venues and vantage points throughout the Hunters Hill LGA on New Year’s Eve.
Vehicle access and parking restrictions will be in place from 12pm on Saturday 31 December 2022 until approximately 1.00am Sunday 1 January 2023 (or until Police deem access to be safe).
A Park and Ride will be running from Boronia Park for access to Clarkes Point Reserve (see drop down on this page).
There is no access for non-resident vehicles* to the Woolwich Peninsula on New Year’s Eve.

A Special Event Car Park will operate at Boronia Park Ovals 1 & 2 from approximately 2.30pm until 11.30pm (for entry) on Saturday 31 December 2022. Entry via Park Road, Hunters Hill.
Vehicles are parked at owner’s own risk. Please obey all instructions from Parking and Traffic Staff.
Patrons are asked to be considerate and safe when using this facility. Boronia Park Ovals are an important recreational and sporting facility in Hunters Hill. Please take care when driving in the Boronia Park Ovals precinct.
Buses: Tap on/off with OPAL card or Credit Card
Special Event Busways Buses have been provided by Transport for New South Wales for New Year’s Eve. They will run between 4.00pm and 11.30pm inwards to Clarkes Point.
Buses will be ready and in position from 8:30pm to start the outward journey after the 9pm fireworks until all passengers have boarded

You do not have to pre-book your bus tickets, but you will need to make payment via Opal card or Credit Card for each trip and patron.

Normal Saturday timetable will be still operating for the normal 538 Services (not Shuttle) as timetabled to assist passengers requiring to head back towards Boronia Park/Gladesville throughout the day.
Special Event Clearways and No Stopping Zones will be in place from 12pm on New Year’s Eve across Hunters Hill. Please check all signs when parking. Rangers will be on duty and Transport for New South Wales will tow away any vehicles parked in Clearways.
All vehicles entering at the Reiby Rd / Church St Overpass checkpoint who are not passed by Police to proceed to Woolwich Peninsua (via Avenue Road) will be sent further down Reiby Rd to the Rose Street underpass, there to exit via Joubert Street. Please obey all signs and instructions from Police and Traffic Controllers. Please remember that this is a residential area.

Clarkes Point and Morts Reserve have fabulous views of the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Hunter’s Hill Council welcomes visitors to this beautiful location.
Food and (some) market stalls will be on site, but you are also free to bring your own picnic.
A tent-free zone will be in place along the foreshore.
BYO alcohol is permitted, but please drink sensibly. This is a family-friendly location. Police will be patrolling the area.
Visitors to the parks must obey all Fire and Health restrictions.
Dogs must be ON-leash due to the volume of people in attendance.
Please do not cross into roped-off areas.
PARKING & DROP-OFF
There is NO vehicle drop-off zone at Clarkes Point Car Park on Clarke Road.
Clarkes Point Car Park will be closed to the public from 9.00am on Friday 30 December 2022 and will re-open at 9.00am on Sunday 1 January 2023. Non-event vehicles parked there during the closure will be booked by the Rangers.
Lookout Reserve is located on Woolwich Road next to Cucinetta’s restaurant and opposite the Woolwich Pier Hotel.
It is managed by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.
Park and Ride buses will terminate for passengers near Lookout Reserve.
The beautiful Kellys Bush Reserve is located at the end of Alfred St, Woolwich. There are limited views of the fireworks.
The Kellys Bush Car Park will be closed to public vehicles on New Years Eve with additional No Stopping areas in place in Alfred Street.
Parking restrictions will be in place along Huntleys Point Road in the areas leading up to, and surrounding the Underpass.
Please be mindful that this is a residential area with extremely limited access and parking. Please treat the area with respect and safety. Do not park across resident’s driveways.
From 1pm 31/12/2022 Huntleys Point Road will be Local Traffic Only access from Huntleys Point Wharf roundabout down to the end of the road.
There is some limited parking available at Gladesville Reserve and on Huntleys Point Road on the way down to Huntleys Point Wharf (Commuter Car Park). It is advisable to park there and walk to Underpass to avoid traffic congestion.
Some portable toilets will be available onsite for public use.
Please come and visit our Food and Market Stalls in the Clarkes Point Car Park on New Years Eve. Stalls will be trading from 4pm until 12.30am and include:
Burgers, chips, falafels, hot dogs, gozleme, fish & chips, and colourful drinks will be for sale from a range of food stalls and trucks.
For the kids, visit the light up & bubble toys stall or the sand art stall.
If you are attending a vantage point with young children, it would be helpful to write your phone number on the child in case they become lost.
Hunter’s Hill Council staff will have some labels and pens available at the Council Tent at Clarkes Point if parent’s would like to drop by.
Please make sure that you keep a constant eye on your children as the vantage points can be crowded and dark.
