Major projects providing enhanced facilities for community use will progress, following decisions of Hunter’s Hill Council at its meeting tonight (Monday 19 December).

At Gladesville Reserve, the playing field will be upgraded using a $2million grant from the NSW Office of Sport.

Councillors tonight endorsed a concept plan for stage one works that include: an upgraded natural turf playing surface, sized to include a community soccer field and two training areas; minor works to improve lighting; and removal and reinstatement of a cricket practice net.

It is expected that construction would be complete in late 2023, with the field available for use in 2024.

Subject to the availability of funding, community consultation outcomes and adherence to the Henley Precinct Plan of Management, other works such as expansion of the field, a new amenities building and playground, lighting upgrade, and accessible paths and parking, may be considered as future stages.

At tonight’s meeting, Council also resolved to proceed with a detailed design and request for tender for a swim site project at Bedlam Bay, following a community engagement process.

The project will be funded using a $560,475 NSW Government Places to Swim grant.

Council is proceeding with the project as a member of the Parramatta River Catchment Group, which has a ‘Our Living River’ mission to make the Parramatta River swimmable again by 2025.

Also considered at tonight’s meeting were the next steps towards potential construction of a Boronia Park Sports and Community Facility.

The proposed construction of the facility is designed to address significant deficiencies in the existing amenities and would include: accessible toilets, new change rooms and canteen; additional storage for local sporting clubs; and a community room for use by sporting clubs, local schools and other community groups.
