Sporting facilities in Hunters Hill are set for enhancements to promote multi-purpose use by a range of community members, following decisions of Hunter’s Hill Council.

Netball courts at Boronia Park will be upgraded to cater for the growing needs of a variety of sporting and recreational users within the Municipality.

Councillors on Monday night (27 February) endorsed a Boronia Park multi-sports project for works that include resurfacing the two existing netball courts and converting a grass court to a hard court, with line markings to accommodate netball, pickleball and basketball.

Council also resolved to proceed with proposed improvements to Buffalo Creek Reserve.

This will include renewing an existing basketball half-court, renewing footpaths, constructing a new cricket pitch and installing new LED lights.

The works aim to improve the condition of the reserve, increase utilisation of the oval and enhance safety.

The project will be funded using a $216,000 NSW Greater Sydney Crown Land Open Space Activation Program grant, originally allocated for a dog park in Tarban Creek Reserve that Council in September 2022 resolved not to proceed with, based on community feedback.

Also considered at Monday’s meeting were the next steps towards playing surface improvements at Gladesville Reserve.

Council resolved to proceed with two options in tender documentation and will receive a further report on tender responses and recommendations.

It follows Council’s success in securing a $260,000 NSW Government grant for a sports field lighting upgrade, which will also be financed with $15,000 from All Saints Hunters Hill Football Club.

The funds are in addition to the $2million grant from the NSW Office of Sport for the sports field resurfacing.

The projects will deliver a high-quality reserve upgrade to both the field and its lighting, helping to improve the safety of users for organised sport and recreational activities.
