The Australian Army Museum of Military Engineering has undertaken conservation works on the Hunters Hill honour roll to preserve it for future generations.

The work was completed under a partnership with Hunter’s Hill Council.

As a Council we are committed to conserving our heritage and making it more accessible into the future.

The treatment plan involved:

  • Gently cleaning the pages of surface dirt with vulcanised rubber.
  • Rehydrating of creases, dog-ears and significant warping of the paper. Pages were then pressed between cotton blotting paper to absorb the moisture and flatten the fibres.
  • Archival document repair tape was applied to tears in the paper.
  • The exterior was cleaned.
  • The object was packaged in acid free material to protect it from further damage from movement, light, unregulated humidity and pests.

These steps are to conserve, rather than to restore, the document by preventing any further deterioration.

The conservation process.
