A major milestone has been marked at Boronia Park on the site for a new Sports and Community Facility, following the awarding of a construction contract.

Local sporting club representatives from rugby, cricket, netball and pickleball marked the occasion with Hunters Hill Mayor Zac Miles, State Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts and Federal Member for North Sydney Kylea Tink.

They were joined at the site by George Kandylas, Head of Strategic Projects at Paynter Dixon, the company awarded the construction contract by Hunter’s Hill Council earlier this month.

The facility, located between Ovals 1 and 2, will include: accessible toilets, new change rooms and a canteen; additional storage for local sporting clubs; and a community room for use by sporting clubs, local schools and other community groups.

The funding model for the $5million project is a combination of State Government and Federal Government grants, fundraising efforts by the Hunters Hill Rugby Union Football Club and a contribution from Ryde Hunters Hill Cricket Club. Council is contributing $1.735million to the project.

Councillor Miles said the facility would provide a much-needed upgrade to Boronia Park, a district-level sport, recreation and nature reserve.

“This is our premier sportsground, used for organised sports across all seasons and by school groups, personal fitness trainers and recreational users,” he said.

“But it lacks facilities and doesn’t meet the needs of our community.

“This project will address significant deficiencies in what currently exists at Boronia Park and provide amenities that our community and sporting clubs desperately need and deserve.

“Our community will benefit from improved opportunities to participate in, spectate and enjoy organised sport.”

Mr Kandylas said Paynter Dixon was committed to partnering with the Council and community to deliver the best outcome in a timely fashion.

“Paynter Dixon looks forward to building this long-awaited sports and community facility for the Hunters Hill community supported by the Federal, State and Local Government in addition to the local community,” he said.

“This project has been on the drawing board for many years, and it’s great to be involved in the final part of this journey.”

“This multi-purpose building will meet the needs of a diverse and vibrant sporting community with amenities that cater to all.”

Mr Kandylas said Paynter Dixon was currently undertaking its procurement process for sub-contractors and materials.

Construction was expected to commence in April.
