Hunter’s Hill Council has delivered a footpath and traffic project, designed to boost student safety, in time for the start of the 2020 school year.
A footpath on the western side of Reiby Road, as well as kerb widening, is designed to assist Hunters Hill High School students walking to school. Road line marking will also be added.
Council voted unanimously in late 2019 to undertake the works, following feedback from the local and school community.
The project was delivered on a tight deadline, in time for students getting back to school.
Mayor Mark Bennett said it was a great result.
“Council is consistently looking at ways to make getting around easier for our community,” he said.
“I’m pleased that our Council team was able to deliver the improvements in this school zone in time for students returning in 2020.”
Hunters Hill High School Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) representative Jacqueline Crompton said the footpath was fantastic.
“It looks like it’s been well-designed for the kids’ safety and we’re really pleased,” she said.
P&C president Martin Brown said the work looked great.
“We’re pleasantly surprised by the speed with which Council got the job done on time … for the first school term,” he said.
Council will continue to monitor pedestrian activity of students for all the area’s schools, as well as in the municipality’s village precincts.
