Gladesville Reserve

Our Council is undertaking planning to determine future improvements at Gladesville Reserve.

Gladesville Reserve Recreation Needs Study

As part of this process, Council has engaged Otium Planning Group to undertake a Recreation Needs Study.

The Gladesville Reserve Recreation Needs Study will involve:

  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Research and analysis of open space trends and reserve use.
  • Field of play assessment – specialist review and advice in relation to the sportsfield surface.
  • Appreciation and analysis of future improvements with consideration to resource implications.
  • Development of a concise report that will help shape future concept designs and prioritise enhancements at Gladesville Reserve.
  • Community engagement of the proposed reserve upgrades.

A key focus of this study will be to identify sport infrastructure upgrades. Based on previous engagement findings and community feedback, synthetic playing field surfaces are not being considered as part of the needs assessment.

What is the current status of the Study?

Otium Planning Group is currently undertaking their background research and analysis of previous reports including consultation findings to date.

What are the next steps?

Stakeholder engagement is scheduled to be undertaken in June 2022. This engagement is designed to gain a better understanding of facility utilisation and sport infrastructure priorities.

Engaged sub-consultants, SportEng will soon be undertaking soil sampling and testing as part of a ‘field of play’ assessment. This will not impact on current activities and use of the site.

Council has a $2 million grant from the NSW Office of Sport for the upgrade of the playing field at Gladesville Reserve.

The key objectives of the grant are:

  • To provide improved playing surface that will have increased playing capacity that can be used for more hours each week and all year round.
  • A higher quality playing surface that enables more players, more teams and more sports to use the ground for a range of active and passive recreation pursuits.

Since being awarded the grant, Council has been investigating options to increase playing time on Gladesville Reserve
