On Saturday 26 January the Hunters Hill Australia Day Awards were presented to the following members of our community who were selected for their outstanding service to the Municipality:
Australian Citizenship was conferred on seven residents from the nations of Britain, China, Hungary, New Zealand & Iran who had chosen to call Australia home on our National Day.
The Hunters Hill Australia Day Ambassador, award winning SBS Cycling Host Michael Tomalaris spoke passionately about the challenges of growing up in Australia as a child of Romanian & Greek heritage and how his career as a journalist travelling the world and covering the Tour de France for 22 years has given him a full appreciation of Australia and its cultural diversity.
The large and enthusiastic audience entered into the spirit of Australia Day showing their support for the award winners and newest Australians. The Hunters Hill 2018 Citizen of the Year Jenny Jackson-Nylund led 20 members of The Mamas & The Mamas choir in a very uplifting performance of ‘My Island Home’; ‘I am Australian’ and The Sapphires ‘Ngarra Burra Ferra’.
