Drug and Drink Driving Penalties

As of Monday 20 May 2019 the NSW Government introduced updated drink and drug driving penalties.

Important things to know about the rules:

• Drivers who are first-time, lower range drink driving offenders will receive an immediate three-month licence suspension and an on the spot fine of $561.
• Drivers caught with illicit drugs in their system for the first time will receive a $561 fine and a three-month licence suspension.
• The reform means that any driver detected drink-driving in NSW, at any level, can lose their licence immediately.
• The drink and drug driving reforms include the expansion of Mobile Drug Testing and inclusion of testing for cocaine, and expansion of the Alcohol Interlock Program to include mid-range offences.
