Circular Economy

In addition to books, entertainment and programs, The YARN showcases our commitment to the circular economy through textile diversion projects and a waste wall.

You can drop off a range of items to be given a new life:

  • Textiles (clothing, towels, sheets, uniforms, and soft toys which are not suitable for donation to charity)
  • Tablets, mobile phones
  • Household batteries
  • Plastic bread tags
  • Dry soft plastic bags
  • Printer cartridges
  • Coffee cups

For enquiries about items suitable for drop off at the waste wall, please contact people@huntershill.nsw.gov.au.

Please do not leave items outside The YARN (check the opening hours).

The Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT) at the University of New South Wales is processing the waste items into repurposed materials.

Examples are already on display at The YARN – benchtop tiles are made from the recycled uniforms of local schools and sporting teams.

Some of the items will be taken by other Circular Economy Projects.
