Welcome to Australia Bay

Hunter’s Hill Council is excited to welcome residents and guests to Australia Bay; our first outdoor cinema event at Bedlam Bay in Gladesville. Australia Bay is part of our Australia Day Celebrations, and is held with the assistance of the National Australia Day Council, National Parks and Wildlife Service, and our presenting partner Bar Didier.

TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR EXPERIENCE AT AUSTRALIA BAY IS BOTH ENJOYABLE AND SAFE, PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED BELOW.

Updates as at 20/1/2021

  • Hunter’s Hill Council strongly encourages attendees to walk or bicycle to the venue if possible.
  • Movies will start after Sunset
  • No BYO Alcohol
  • No public parking will be available at the Oval / Australia Bay site or along Campbell Drive. Limited parking will only be available in the Plunkett St car park. See Map.
  • Entrance to the Gladesville Hospital grounds is via Punt Rd only at Gate 1 into Plunkett Rd just past the Police Station.
  • Motion Sensor CCTV is active on-site. Attendees are to be respectful of the venue, the businesses and residents.
  • All attendees, guests and staff must be off-site by 11.00pm without exception. Please leave the site quickly and safely.
  • Entry to Australia Bay is via a personalised e-ticket only. No entry will be granted without a valid ticket which can be printed or on your mobile phone.
  • As part of our contact tracing procedure, each person attending an Australia Bay event will need to have their own ticket ready to be scanned. Event staff are able to scan the QR code directly from your phone or other portable electronic device, (please make sure you have downloaded the ticket beforehand). Printouts of tickets are discouraged as part of Hunter’s Hill Council’s “paper-lite” sustainable policy.
  • After your ticket has been scanned, you will be given a coloured wristband. You must wear this throughout the event.
  • Please enter and exit the venue complex in a safe and orderly manner. This a night-time event with residents near-by.

5pm: Gates open

5pm – 8pm: Arrive, eat and drink

8pm onwards: Film starts (this may be anywhere between 8pm – 8.30pm depending on light levels)

10.30pm: Event concludes

11.00pm: All attendees and staff must be off-site. No exceptions.

Bedlam Bay Oval (Parramatta River Regional Park) is a hidden gem nestled along the foreshore below the old Gladesville Hospital site and bordered by Campbell Drive, Gladesville.

Hunter’s Hill Council strongly encourages attendees to walk or bicycle to the venue if possible. Limited bicycle racks are available near the Community Gardens.

Public Parking:

  • No public parking will be available at the Oval / Australia Bay site or along Campbell Drive. Limited parking will be available in the Plunkett St car park.
  • Entrance to the Gladesville Hospital grounds is via Punt Rd only at Gate 1 into Plunkett Rd just past the Police Station.
  • Please be aware that all internal roads will be shared by both pedestrians and cars. Please be careful when driving and walking.
  • There is no drop-off area near the oval. Pack what you can carry.
  • Attendees with a valid accessible parking permit will be able to park in a designated area near the ticket scanning point. A valid pass must be displayed and care taken on the road shared with pedestrians.

Public transport:

  • The closest bus stops are located on Victoria Road. Go to https://transportnsw.info/ to access the Trip Planner.
  • Please note that a Public Holiday timetable will be in place on Australia Day.
  • There are some excellent food vendors including Bar Didier, Roman Slice Pizza and Waffled for you to enjoy – however if you would prefer to bring a picnic, please consider a no waste meal. Australia Bay is a sustainable event. Hunter’s Hill Council encourages attendees to bring re-useable cutlery, containers, plates and glasses when packing a picnic.
  • Contactless payment if purchasing from food and beverage stalls
  • Picnic rug or chairs – remember that they need to be carried in and out of the site,
  • Rubbish bag to take your rubbish away with you.
  • Torch (the Hospital grounds can be dark at night)
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Bulky chairs and tables
  • Dogs or other animals
  • BYO Alcohol – there is a licensed bar on site for you to enjoy Non and low alcoholic drinks, Cocktails, Beer and Wine
  • Single-use packaging or non-recyclable picnic items

Hunter’s Hill Council takes the safety of our community very seriously. We ask that all attendees abide by the current heath advice and restrictions.

  • Australia Bay is a Covid-Safe event, and on arrival you will be asked to scan in using the Service NSW app.
  • Hand sanitiser will be available at various areas around the site and a hand-wash station will be available.
  • Please maintain social distancing of 1.5m outside of your household groups.
  • Please follow instructions from staff. Abuse will not be tolerated.
  • Masks are not mandatory at this event, but they are mandatory when using public transport.
  • Do not attend the event if you have recently been at Covid-19 hotspot, travelled from overseas in the past 14 days, are meant to be self-isolating or in quarantine, are feeling ill or presenting with any cold or flu-like systems.
