Disability Inclusion Action Plan- Community Survey

Help us to make Hunters Hill a better place for people living with disability to live, work and visit by helping us develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP).

As part of the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, all councils are required to undertake disability inclusion action planning and produce a plan by July 2017. Hunter’s Hill Council would like your input for our local DIAP.

A DIAP will identify actions which Council can undertake to assist people with a disability to participate more fully in community life.

Hunter’s Hill Council is developing its DIAP to address four key areas that been nominated by people with disability as being of primary importance in creating an inclusive community.

• Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
• Creating liveable communities
• Supporting access to meaningful employment
• Improving access to services through better systems and processes

The DIAP will provide a whole of Council approach to effectively plan for and deliver on the diverse needs of people with disability in our community.

How You Can Get Involved

Council invites people living with disability, their carers, family members, friends and the general community to provide input into the plan.

• We will be running a community survey through March to early May, where all members of the Hunters Hill community will be able to have their say about disability inclusion.
• We will be holding focus groups in May for people with a disability, their carers and their families.
• One on one conversations can be organised if you are not comfortable in a group situation or need extra support.
• Meeting in a Box Toolkit is a mini consultation that can be used by groups, families or friends to run a consultation meeting of your own using standardised procedures and questions.

Council has engaged Elton Consulting to assist us with the consultations and in the development of the plan.

Please contact Tania Gamble on 9879 9454 or email: gamblet@huntershill.nsw.gov.au for further information about the Disability Inclusion Action Plan or to request a hardcopy of the survey with a reply paid envelope.
